When you get to experience the glory of reaching the summit, the feeling is unlike any other! The sense of accomplishment from such an extraordinary feat stays with you forever.

Every day of the Everest Expedition is exciting and new. The landscape is captivating and takes your mind off the potential anxiety towards the final moments. First, trek through the lower region of Sagarmatha National Park (after a frightening flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The beloved national park is home to the Sherpa ethnic group, as well as rare animal species, such as the snow leopard and the Tibetan snowcock.

From Phakding, we trek to Namche Bazaar and spending a day there. Namche Bazaar has a chilled out feel to it. Trekkers and mountaineers share their stories of adventure on the mountain, and share tips with those who have just begun. Then, we move to Tengboche, where we can visit the monastery and get some blessings before continuing. Climbing higher and further into the desolate alpine landscape (which is nothing less than stunning), we reach Everest Base Camp (5364 meters), with awesome views of the Khumbu Icefall.

From Base Camp, we make a few more ascents to acclimatize before the final ascent to the summit. Camp I is around 6,200 meters/20,340 feet. Camp II is around 6,600 meters/21,655 feet. Camp III is about 7,200 meters/23,620 feet. Camp IV (located at the South Col), from where we push to the summit, is at nearly 8,000 meters/26,250 feet.

The natural high you receive at the summit in inexplicable. Celebrate the moment with photos and some hugs. Take some deep breaths and enjoy your moment at the top of the world. When it is time, we head back down towards Lukla, a simple trek compared to what we’ve been through. Celebrate a successful ascent along the way!
