Pisang Peak Expedition

Duration: 11 Days

Venture into the mountain paradise of the Annapurna region and climb the magnificent Pisang Peak (6091 meters/19,983 feet)! The 11-day journey from Kathmandu is a short and sweet peak climbing excursion that is perfect for mountains of all experience levels. It is a bit technical challenging, but we give you all the necessary climbing instruction and training beforehand. The Pisang Peak Expedition is an experience to last a lifetime! If you do not have weeks to spend on the mountain preparing for a climbing expedition, then our short and sweet package is perfect for you.
We start in the foothills of the Annapurna region peaks and head trek higher, around rugged cliffs and into the sublime alpine meadows. At the climax of the trek, enjoy a bird’s eye perspective of the massive Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range peaks (including some of the world’s highest!) and the villages resting below them. The view from the summit takes your breath away.
Leave Kathmandu on the first day to arrive in Tal, a beautiful village on the bank of the Marsyangdi River. The entire valley is made of waterfalls, steep canyons, and dense subtropical forests. Then, we drive further to Pisang and spend two nights there. Pisang is an incredible city city whose stone-houses cling onto the jagged hill. Admire the pristine mountain views from the guest house. The hospitality of the locals in PIsang, who practice Tibetan Buddhism, is inspiring.
After a fun, laid back time in Pisang we head up to Pisang Base Camp and prepare for the final ascent. Now, we have entered a mountain wilderness. Find yourself in ecstasy at the top, with an unrivalled view. Feast your eyes on the peaks of Annapurna South (7219m), Annapurna II (7937m), Gangapurna (7455m), Lamjung Himal (6983m), Tilicho Peak (7134m) and more! Upon descending, we head back to Kathmandu and although the trip is short, the memory and sense of accomplishment lasts a lifetime.
Our experienced guides follow the best procedure to minimize potential risks and maximize the chance of a successful summit ascent. Safety is our highest priority and maintaining proper acclimatization is key. To prevent altitude sickness, the itinerary has been designed for slow ascents and spending extra nights in certain places.

  • Day 02:Preparation Day.Together, we spend a couple hours getting all the permits and documents necessary for taking the Dhaulagiri Expedition. Take the rest of the day to relax and get caught up on rest. Overnight in hotel on B&B basis.
  • Day 03:Drive from Kathmandu to Tal (1700m).Drive for the better part of the day to Tal, where we begin the foothill journey the next day. The drive is gorgeous, leading past terraced hills and beautiful streams. It’s a long drive, but it feels fast because you are distracted by the beauty throughout the ride. When we arrive in the late afternoon/early evening, stretch your legs and wander around the village. Overnight in teahouse lodge.
  • Day 04:Drive from Tal to Pisang (3150m).Take your time in the morning and have a nice breakfast. We can another vehicle up through the bumpy road to Pisang. As we have ascended about 1500 meters, there is a shift in the landscape. The landscape is more rugged and the mountain views are absolutely spectacular. When we arrive, stretch the legs and walk around the village, or take a day hike if there is time. Overnight in teahouse lodge.
  • Day 05:Rest day at Pisang.Today, we spend our time hiking around the trails surrounding the village and simply letting our bodies adjust to the altitude. If we ascend too fast, we risk getting altitude sickness. The best thing to do is climb high and sleep low, so we abide by this. At the end of the day, come back for dinner and anticipate the rest of the journey. Overnight in teahouse lodge.
  • Day 06:Trek to Pisang Base Camp (4380m).We begin our climb to base camp after breakfast. The lovely trail passes through a sparse alpine forest and grazing meadow. By the end of the day, we are above the tree line and surrounded by rocky peaks. It’s a quintessential Himalayan scene. Overnight in a tent camp.
  • Day 07:Acclimatization day at Pisang Base Camp.Today, we prepare for the climb by going over the route and getting familiarized again with the gear, including the ice axe, climbing boots, crampons, harness, etc. We make sure all is ready to go. We also spend time ascending and then descending by the end of the day to help the acclimatization process. Tomorrow we will reach 6091 meters, so we want to be as prepared as possible. Overnight in tent camp.
  • Day 08:Summit Pisang Peak (6091m).Wake up before the sun rises and have a hearty breakfast. Before the sun comes up, we begin the ascent. Although the peak is not so high, it is very technical. The angle is about 70 degrees, and requires the use of both fixed and main ropes. From the summit, jaw-dropping views of the Annapurna range peaks are visible. Sit in awe, snap some photos, and head back to base camp for the night. Overnight in tent camp.
  • Day 09:Trek down to Pisang and drive to Tal.Wake up full of energy, still buzzing from the Himalayan mountain high. After breakfast, we head back down to Pisang, have lunch, and take a vehicle back to Tal. Celebrate a successful trek in Tal and have a restful sleep. Overnight in teahouse lodge.
  • Day 10:Drive to Kathmandu. The epic adventure is capped off with a pleasant drive through Nepal’s countryside along to Pokhara. Then, we take the Prithvi Highway all the way back to Kathmandu. When we arrive, spend the evening freely exploring the side streets or buying some souvenirs in Thamel. Overnight in hotel on B&B basis.
